Vocational Major

Working on developing and building workplace capabilities

Can you help?

  • Providing Work Placement opportunities for Year 12 students
  • Presenting to students about your career journey
  • Hosting an excursion to your workplace

In 2023, Swinburne Senior Secondary College will be introducing the new VCE Vocational Major.  At both Year 11 and Year 12, a central focus of the program will be examining and developing important employment capabilities. These include such things as teamwork, communication, planning, thinking creatively, enterprise skills. Additionally the curriculum also explores the important aspect of workplace wellbeing culture, employer-employee relationships and personal accountability.

A key component of the Vocational Major is to provide students with real life, hands on experience.  We are therefore reaching out to our community of parents and guardians to support us with possible work placements for our Year 12 students.

Additionally, the program also aims to assist students in developing an understanding of career pathways, training and transitions.  We would therefore love to hear from any parents or guardians who would be interested in coming into the school or have the students visit your workplace, to talk to the students about their own career pathway. We are particularly interested in hearing from those of you who have taken many different roads in their careers journey or those who have set up their own businesses.
