Congratulations to 2022 graduate Sequoia Pather, who was selected as a finalist in the Centre for Creative Photography's inaugural National High School Photography Awards.

Sequoia's photographs, chosen for their demonstration of creativity and originality, explore linear and abstract narratives utilising herself as the subject.

If you are in Adelaide from Friday 24 February – Friday 17 March 2023, be sure to pop into The Light Gallery to view the exhibition, or even better get along to opening night on Friday 24 February, 6pm.

Lauri Pavlovich - Break the Binaries Exhibit

Biography

Lauri Pavlovich is a transgender nonbinary young person and bug enthusiast. They are a writer, facilitator and artist with autism and ADHD. Due to their neurodivergence and gender identity they break the binary everyday personally and in their work. They enjoy encouraging others to do the same through empathy and self acceptance. Lauri has had a special interest in bugs since they first started playing with them in their grandpa's garden at 3 years old; since then their fascination has only grown, cycling through various hyper fixations on specific invertebrates and mollusks. They are so excited to share their work with you and introduce you to this tiny but infinitely diverse world.

Laurie visited the Science Gallery Melbourne in 2022 with their year 12 psychology class. They viewed the exhibit ‘Mental’ as part of their study into mental health. While they were there the wonderful facilitators mentioned an open call for their 2023 exhibition ‘Break The Binary’.  Lauri applied, was lucky enough to be shortlisted, completed an interview and was chosen to have their idea installed.

Break The Binaries will present a playful and kaleidoscopic view of genders, identity and their relationship with science and technology, creativity, culture, race and sexuality. The season welcomes exploration around the vast expanse of intersections that break the concept of binary options. With genders at its heart, this exhibition will create connections and conversation through personal perspectives, interdisciplinary creative practice and research
