NAPLAN NEWS

Dear Parents,

The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) has been developed by the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). It is a national test administered by each state to students of Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.  It is designed to be an annual assessment of learning where data is collected on both a state and national level.

This year the NAPLAN testing period will be held from Wednesday 15th March - Friday 31st March. There are four test components: Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy.  The tests will be conducted in this sequential order and many will be scheduled between Wednesday 15th March - Monday 20th March. The Year 5 students will complete all four tests online via the NAPLAN Platform. The Year 3 students will also complete their tests online, except for the Writing test which will be handwritten. All materials including test booklets, pencils and electronic devices will be provided by the school and ACARA.

We encourage you to support your child by reassuring them that it is only one test on one day and that all Year 3 and Year 5 students throughout the state will also be completing the NAPLAN tests. Remaining calm is the key.

If you have any queries about your child sitting the NAPLAN tests, please contact your child’s classroom teacher or myself. It is recommended that you notify your child’s classroom teacher if you are aware of any planned family holidays or absences during this testing period.

I am more than happy to discuss any concerns you may have and have included my email address below.
