From the Acting Principal

Week 4

Parents and Carers,

A number of our parents attended a faith formation evening at St. Francis Xavier Church on Monday this week. Father Michael shared a historical and Christian perspective of Reconciliation. He talked about the Communal Rite of Forgiveness and how the Sacraments in our parish are parent initiated, school supported, parish based programs. Our students in Year 4 will be preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation but it is, in fact, a parish celebration. The Communal Rite of Reconciliation, at 7.00pm on Monday 20th March at Our Lady's church, is an opportunity for all members of the community to say sorry to God and seek His forgiveness.

On Wednesday the 22nd of February, we will welcome the student leaders from St. Francis Xavier and Holy Trinity, as we celebrate Ash Wednesday Mass at 9.30am. All members of the school community are invited to join our students in the church and receive the ashes.

A reminder that we have our Parent Information Night on Wednesday 22nd February at 7pm in the Community Centre. As mentioned last week, this evening is an opportunity for parents to hear about regular school events and processes; Parents and Friends of Our Lady’s initiatives for 2023; and for parents to contribute ideas of how we can work together to foster and support new and ongoing student activities.

On Thursday this week we held our Parent Teacher Conversations. Parents had the opportunity to share information about their child with the classroom teacher. This dedicated time to have face to face conversations is vital in establishing connections between you, as the primary educators of your child, and the classroom teacher.

This week, students in Years 3-6 had the opportunity to try out for the school swimming team and the Eltham Lacrosse Club provided clinics for our Year 5 and 6 students.

As mentioned last week, we have locked in Thursday the 9th March for our annual Twilight Sports event which will be held at Catholic Ladies College in Eltham. We have been holding our sporting events there for many years and would like to thank the CLC community for their continued support of our school. More information will be coming out about the night over the next few weeks so keep it free.

I would like to add a couple of uniform reminders at this time of year. Our sports uniform which includes the sports shorts or skort and white socks with runners should only be worn on sports days. The summer uniform is either the school dress, navy socks, black shoes or the blue/gold polo, navy blue school shorts, navy socks and black shoes. I think it is important to set expectations early in the year and develop good habits. With the arrival of summer heat finally, I also remind families to make sure everyone has a hat at school everyday.

As always there is plenty going on at the school, at the moment so keep your eyes open for communications from the school.

Regards,

Mark
