Welcome to St Joseph’s College Resource Centre

Information for Parents

The school library is part of your school’s teaching and learning environment. It provides resources and services that support students, staff, and families. Your library’s resources, physical space, and staff have tremendous potential to make a difference to students’ achievement, educational equity, and their social and emotional wellbeing.

The school library is a central hub supporting every student and staff member, as well as parents. The library combines several elements — library staff, resources, and space. Each of these plays an important part in supporting teaching and learning. School libraries are most effective when these elements combine to form an integrated whole.

St Joseph’s College Resource Centre strives to be an effective school library for the following reasons:

  • improves student outcomes — collections developed for your unique school community enrich reading and learning programs
  • welcomes people in — the library is a safe place, that values and includes students from different cultures and backgrounds
  • brings people and information together — connections with other libraries and information sources enhance your library’s collections, and help your library staff help users find what they need
  • embodies the principles of ‘learner agency’ — students having the independence to choose their own reading, and to find resources that help them develop their interests and strengths at their own pace
  • helps close the education gap — for students who might otherwise be disadvantaged, the library can provide access to the stories, information, and technology they need

The focus of the St Joseph’s College Resource Centre is to expose students to a wide range of literature, including picture story books in both written and spoken form, poetry, non-fiction books and stories containing a wide range of genres.

This week in the Library

We have been showcasing and hosting a range of classes and programs from all year levels 7-12. The Reading Room programs are well underway, and students have been powering through their chosen books, developing and building upon their reading skills and stamina.

We have also been busy putting up some new signage to make finding books of reference easier, and we have moved a few bits of furniture around to make our space friendly for those coming in for private sturdy, and those coming in to enjoy the space socially with games.

Upcoming Activities — Chess Club!

An enthusiastic Year 10 student has organised a chess club open to all eager and keen chess players. He welcomes beginners and experienced players to join in the fun and competition, and learn new skills and strategies along the way!
