Kitchen Garden

On the menu for the year 3s this week was Chinese Fried Rice using many different vegetables, egg and bacon. The students were all involved in chopping and preparing, mixing and finally tasting using chopsticks! The students were led to reflect on the influence of other cultures on our food available in our country.

Using the food scraps we conducted an experiment to see how to grow food from other good. Using the base of carrots, bok choy, lettuce, celery, shallots, zucchini and capsicum, we placed them in water, left them to stand near a window in the classroom. The students will observe any signs of growth over the next two weeks.

Thank you all for remembering to bring in a plastic punnet - we still need many more as we are using the bases of 2 to make one greenhouse. We therefore need two punnets from each student. We will be using these in wk 7 but you may bring them in at any time.

Yr 4 Stewardship Program

The year 4 stewardship program focused on preparing for our visit from Melbourne Water where students will learn about the care and management of our local waterways, and how the effects of pollution impact our waterways and quality of life. This will be a four week program, with an excursion to Tirhatuan Park Reserve on Wed 22nd March - details to come soon.

Year 2 Water Warriors

Thank you to our very keen Water Warriors who are eagerly and diligently catching and using the water to feed our plants. Thank you also to all the other students who are respecting the role of the year 2 students and allowing them to carry out this important task.

Shrove Tuesday

On Tuesday the year ones were treated to pancakes to recognise Shrove Tuesday. This has become a tradition at St Justin's for the years ones and they thoroughly enjoyed this delicious start to their day.

Congratulations to the Year 3s

The year 3 students along with their teachers have been recording the amount of waste in their classroom bins and have decided that they will share a bin between the two classes as a way of reducing the amount of plastic bin liners ending up in landfill. We congratulate their initiative and encourage others to follow their example.
