Principal's Report

Term 1, 2023

WELCOME

All signs point to another incredible and productive school year. Dedication to excellence in education has characterised Term 1 at Dromana College. Our students’ collective focus on their learning and positive energy is to be congratulated. I am always proud and delighted of the young people that make up our amazing learning community.

Our skilled and devoted staff have again ensured that all students are starting their school year supported at their individual point of need. The continued investment in our additional learning support programs has meant that every student will have the tools and strategies they need to thrive in their learning in 2023.  And to our families, I welcome and value your contributions, feedback, and support. We can only achieve the best for our students if we work together and form a strong school and family partnership. I look forward to working with you and your children.

NEW STAFF

Each year brings positive change. This includes a few additions to our staff. We are delighted to welcome 22 new members to our teaching and education support teams. One of the most enjoyable parts of my day is walking around the school and visiting classrooms, and it has been wonderful to see our new staff so settled and already making a positive difference to the outcomes of their students.

DROMANA COLLEGE 2023 CAPTAINS

College Captain is prestigious position within our school community. Congratulations go to Robby Wood-Ingram, Mackenzie Duncan, Esther Leishman and Oliver Delaney for their appointments in 2023. Our captains represent the student voice of Dromana College, actively promote the school values at all times, and provide leadership to the entire student body. My congratulations again to these outstanding young people, I am confident they will individually and collectively have a positive influence on our school community.

SWIMMING SPORTS AND ATHLETICS CARNIVALS

The annual whole school swimming and athletics carnivals were held this term and I would like to pass my thanks and congratulations to Mr Ryan Volo and Ms Emma Morrison for their outstanding organisation of these events. Events such as these are invaluable to the enhancement of school spirit, and it was fantastic to see such high-level participation from students giving their personal best. The positive atmosphere on both days was motivating to all in attendance.

OPEN NIGHT

The Dromana College Open Night for prospective Grade 6 families will be held on Wednesday 3rd May commencing at 6:00pm in the Basketball Stadium. The night is being organised by our Transitions Coordinator, Mr Ryan Miller, with all staff and a number of our student representatives also involved. Our aim for Open Night is to give you, as parents and guardians, an opportunity to ask questions and explore the opportunities that we can provide your child as they embark on their secondary education journey. I always look forward to this evening as we come together to recognise and celebrate the achievements, programs, opportunities, and people that make Dromana College great.

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Parent Teacher Interviews were held on Monday 27th March. The day was a great success, and it was wonderful to see so many families take up the opportunity to meet and engage with teachers in order to promote communication between school and home. This enables our teachers to work positively and collaboratively with you as parents to ensure growth with every child’s learning and social wellbeing.

OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO THE TEACHING SERVICE

I would like to acknowledge the work and dedication of Mrs Brooke Mollenkopf. Brooke has been a long-serving member of our learning community, giving over 40 years of her life to the education and wellbeing of our young people. With her retirement comes the end of era at Dromana College, one which should be marked with celebration of an incredible career. Thank you, Brooke, for your unwavering advocacy of all students, your support of our families and your contributions across the school. You will be missed, but we wish you all the very best in your retirement, enjoying travel and time with family.

Additionally, it is with great thanks and pride we acknowledge and celebrate the contributions and dedication of Ms Deb Day for an exceptional 45 years of service. Well done Deb, it is an honour to have you on our staff!

Thank you to all members of our school community. Your commitment to ensuring that Dromana College remains a celebrated and successful school is inspiring. It remains a privilege to serve as your Principal.  Please stop by and say hello. Together, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all students.
