Doing our Personal Best - Focus on Excellence

Excellence is a value that we often hear about, but what does it really mean? The dictionary defines excellence as the quality of being outstanding or extremely good. In other words, it is the pursuit of greatness, of doing our very best in everything we do.

In school, excellence is essential for success. It is not just about getting good grades, but also about developing a positive attitude towards learning and personal growth. Excellence requires hard work, dedication and a commitment to always improve.

When we strive for excellence, we challenge ourselves to be better and push our limits. We develop the skills and habits that enable us to achieve our goals, both inside and outside the classroom. We learn to be more focused, disciplined and resilient, which are qualities that will serve us well in the future.

Excellence also means taking pride in our work and being accountable for our actions. We understand that our performance is a reflection of who we are and what we value. When we do our best, we not only achieve success, but we also gain a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment that comes from knowing that we gave it our all.

Finally, excellence is not just about ourselves, but also about contributing to the greater good. When we strive for excellence, we become role models for others and inspire them to do their best. We create a culture of excellence that benefits everyone, from classmates and teachers to families and communities.

With the school routine now in full swing, it was great to see the number of families who joined the information sessions either online or in person.  The research shows that parents who show an interest in their child’s learning and school help them to be the best they can be. As parents, please encourage your children to contribute in co-curricular activities and make the most of the opportunities available to them.

Leaders Induction Assembly

After the training day, students who have Primary, Middle School, Senior School leadership roles and College were presented with their badges and formally inducted in their roles.  We heard about the qualities that make a good leader from young people with key characteristics such as:

  • Passion
  • Energy
  • Inspiring
  • Creativity and innovation
  • Resilience and overcoming challenges
  • Wanting to make change for the better
  • Value-driven

John Quincy Adams, a politician, diplomat, lawyer, and diarist who served as the sixth president of the United States from 1825 to 1829, said of leaders:

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader”.

Students were reminded that a leader is not someone who commands, but someone who serves and empowers others.  Leadership is not about having power, but about having the courage to use it for the greater good.  They were encouraged to use their role for the greater good and to make a positive impact in our school and community. As role models in the school they were asked to support each another in their endeavours and create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all, pushing themselves to reach new heights and strive for excellence.
