SAINTS BOARDING

News from Brett Toombs

Director of Boarding

Boarders of the Week

Congratulations to Tre Bobongie and Lachlan Vella who were awarded Boarder of the Week for their respective residences at our Sunday Liturgy last week. This is a popular award, held in high esteem by staff and students.

Congratulations to the following boys who received Academic Effort Awards on Sunday night. These were presented to boarders who demonstrated excellent application and an outstanding attitude towards their school work in Semester 2, 2022.

Year 7 – Archie Clifton, Zai Laifoo, Xander Lemke, Joey Little, Max Masterman,

                Jake  Sheppard.

Year 8 – Torres Sabatino.

Year 9 – Patrick Arnold, Liam Atkinson, Jamie Keenan, Charlie Lawrence,

                 Jyrell Richardson, Righardt Bohmer.

Year 10 – Henry King, Gus Rolfe.

Year 11 – Edward Nancarrow.

Sunday Night Chapel

Excluding free and Exeat weekends, the boarding community gather for Sunday night chapel at 7pm. This is a compulsory event for our boarders, and, therefore, we expect all boarders to return to the College on a Sunday night by 5:30pm. This allows them to be present for the roll call and dinner at 6pm.

Exeat Weekend

This coming weekend is the Exeat for Term 1. This is a long weekend for the boarders, for St Monica’s and St Augustine’s. To clarify, all boarders must have left for the weekend. The residences closed at 4:30pm today and will not reopen again until 3pm Monday 27 February. All full-time boarders were required to have their leave entered into REACH by 7pm Tuesday 21 February. Boarders are responsible for submitting leave requests and their parents must approve requests. If you have any questions about access to the REACH program, please do not hesitate to call me.

Communication with Heads of Residence

As mentioned in the welcoming letters from our heads of residence, we welcome open communication from parents to them throughout the term. If calling, the best time to reach the respective head of residence is between 8:30 and 9:30am weekdays. The heads are extremely busy at the start of the morning and after school, therefore this is not an ideal time to talk. Alternatively, an email may be preferable and they will reply at their earliest convenience. When discussing topics such as leave requests, or information about your son and/or daughter, the head of residence should be the first point of contact.

Thursday Afternoon Activities

We had a great start to our Thursday afternoon boarding activities program last week. This term, our students will be involved in seven different activities, rotating through the variety that is on offer each week. Activities include dodge ball, 3X3 basketball, ultimate Frisbee, volleyball, CrossFit, table tennis and cooking.

Facebook and REACH

Thank you to the parents and boarders who have navigated the REACH program when applying for leave. If you have any concerns about accessing the REACH program, please call or email me . Also, a reminder about the St Augustine’s Boarding Facebook page. If you wish to join, please follow the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/145337315916743/

Country Visits and Dinners

In 2023 we look forward to continuing our visits to our families throughout the country and spending some time with them. Mr Seivers, Ms Brunott and I are visiting Weipa on March 3 and 4 and are very much looking forward to meeting many families throughout the year. An invitation to all Weipa families to join us for dinner will be distributed shortly.

Saturday Outing

An enjoyable day was had last weekend during the free weekend with 60 students staying in boarding. The morning consisted of rollerblading, followed by swimming and ball games in the hall in the afternoon.

Laundry Returns

Can I please take this opportunity to encourage all students and families to ensure that laundry numbers are clearly labelled on all clothing. Our boarding program relies heavily on an external laundry, and marking of clothes is vital to ensure they are returned promptly to their owners.
