The Prep students have been developing their communication skills by using a class protocol called Floor Friends. Floor Friends encourages students to sit and talk with different students in their class, allowing them to get out of their comfort zone and discuss a range of topics. Each week they are assigned a new Floor Friend who they sit next to during floor time. Students use the acronym SLANT (Sit up, Lean in, Acknowledge, Nod and Track the speaker) to support them in communicating respectfully with their Floor Friend. This prompt allows them to discuss learning topics with their peers in a calm and respectful manner and helps students feel more comfortable to share their thinking with others.
During our fluid maths and sound groups, Preps are able to learn and engage with peers across the whole Prep cohort to work collaboratively towards their explicit learning goals. The targeted learning groups have helped students build confidence in attempting learning tasks and building new connections. On Fridays, students have extended time to engage in social play with the cohort through our discovery and active movement sessions. Discovery is planned around our term inquiry and provides students with opportunities to explore common interests such as imaginary play, construction and mindfulness in different classrooms. During active movement, Preps learn to play new and familiar games in a large cohort setting where they are building key social skills including sportsmanship, problem solving and effective teamwork.

Tissues: As we are still in the season of sniffles, we have found ourselves in a shortage of tissues. Our Prep community would very much appreciate tissue boxes donated by families. If you are in the position to do so, we would love your help!
Book bags: Our students have made tremendous progress with their reading abilities! Thank you for continuing to support our teaching and your child's learning by reading with them each night. Please continue to do so and remember that book bags MUST be returned to the classroom with your child's allocated book each day.
Book bags can be purchased from the office.
Brain food: Each day at 9.45am, we sit together to eat our brain food. Brain food is either fruit, vegetables or yoghurt. Please ensure your child has one of these items in their lunch box each day.
Toys from home: We request that all toys and stickers remain at home, and are not brought to school. This is a school wide policy. While we understand that your children may want to show their toys to their friends, unfortunately these items can go missing, come back broken, or be misused.
Thank you for working together with us and helping us grow the Wollert Way.
