Our Learning Story

Student Voice & Agency remains a key focus, with our mission to develop environments and opportunities that empower our students. The latest research supports this focus as it reinforces that to be successful, schools must value the perspectives and opinions of students and act on them in a way that genuinely shapes learning and decision-making at the school. Including student voice and listening to what students have to say will inform decision-making and help to design and develop engaging and effective teaching and learning programs. This philosophy is underpinned by the simple notion that allowing students and teachers to work in partnership to design solutions together, will ultimately increase outcomes across all facets of the school.
At Wollert Primary School we are implementing Student Voice through our ‘Spotlight’. Spotlight is a dedicated session each fortnight (even weeks when Assembly does not run) for all classroom teachers to engage in learning about Student Voice and Agency with their students. It will be a time when students can collaborate with one another within their own classrooms and learning communities, but also with other students from across the school. For example, our Senior students working with Prep Students and Junior and Middle students working and learning together.
By concentrating our energies and putting a ‘spotlight’ on Student Voice and Agency, we are more likely to achieve success. To truly embed Student Voice and Agency at Wollert Primary School, it will take a united and collaborative approach, from leadership right through to classroom and specialist teachers, Education Support staff, students, and their families. Everyone will need to show our school value 'Be Curious' for our work to positively impact student learning outcomes and support the wellbeing of everyone at our school.
