What's on at Wollert PS!

Wollert Primary School Book Fair

Wollert Primary School is very excited to announce our inaugural Book Fair, which will take place from Monday 7th to Friday 11th of August (this week). The Book Fair will be hosted by Lamont Books who will provide us with a huge range of books starting from $5. Teachers will book a session for each class to visit the Book Fair. During this time, the students will get to browse a variety of book titles and complete a ‘Wish List’.

Following this, there are 2 options to make book purchases:

1. Purchase at the School Parents/Carers are invited to make Book Fair purchases in the Eucalyptus Learning Hub, and enter via the Central Playground (Poster will also be around the school)This will be open before school from 8.40am to 9.00am and afterschool 3.00pm to 3.30pm. EFTPOS/card facilities will only be available at this time

Open morning: We have set aside some special time for Grandparents, carers, and our wider community members to come to view our Book Fair and purchase books if they wish to. This will coincide with the open morning on Tuesday 8th August.  Book donations will also be accepted at this time.

2. Online Purchase After being at the fair students will take their wish list home for families to decide on which books to purchase. Payments will need to be processed via the secure online payment link at: https://payments.lamontauthors.com.au/

If you complete an online payment Payments will usually be generated overnight, however, please keep the wish list/ receipt. Students will then collect their order at school after payment has been made.

**For both purchasing options**If specific books have ‘sold out’, extra copies will be ordered. These orders will then be sorted into learning communities and distributed.

Please note: No cash sales can be accepted for the Book Fair.

Hats off to Reading!

Our Book fair will have a  ‘Hats off to Reading’ theme.

Students are all encouraged to bring along hats so they can use these in reading time as a bit of extra JOY during this time.

Book Week  (Monday 21st August - Friday 25th August)

Since 1945 the Children's Book Council of Australia has brought children and books together across Australia through Children's Book Week. During this time we will be celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators. Around the school and in our surrounding public libraries colorful displays and activities will be taking place. The theme for 2023 is Read, Grow, Inspire.

The traditional BOOK WEEK DRESS-UP DAY will take place on Friday 25th August

On this day, students are invited to dress as their favourite book character. We are very much looking forward to this joyful day

National Day Against Bullying & Violence  - BE KIND DAY - Friday 18th August

Bullying. No Way! and the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA). The NDA is Australia’s key bullying prevention initiative for schools, encouraging whole-school communities to work together to implement evidence-informed positive, and proactive solutions to prevent and address bullying.

The NDA is an opportunity to create a shared understanding of what is bullying, outline your bullying prevention policies, and show support to students who may be experiencing bullying. The NDA theme for 2023 is 'growing connections'. This theme supports research findings that strong school community connections and social skills are protective factors in the prevention of bullying and help enable positive, help-seeking behaviours in

 students.

We look forward to acknowledging this at Wollert Primary School as one of our key values is Be KIND.

Upcoming School Review - Term 4

Schools undertake school reviews to inform the directions of the schools to support the development of school improvement documentation which are legislative requirements for all government schools.  At Wollert Primary School we will soon be commencing the first component of our upcoming review is the pre-review self-evaluation. This process will review our data and other evidence to form a collective view of our current practice and areas for improvement.

Following this, a more formal review was conducted by a panel, utilising the expertise of challenge partners, and convened by an independent school reviewer. Concurrent with this panel process, the school reviewer undertakes an assessment of the school’s compliance with the Minimum Standards for Curriculum and Student Learning.

The dates for the School Review are planned for Monday 16th October - Review Validation Day, Tuesday 24th October - Fieldwork Day, and Thursday 26th OCTOBER - Final Day.
