Eclipse House News

Welcome back to the 2023 boarding year. Eclipse boarders returned with many great stories from their break, all that little bit taller and all motivated to achieve their best. For the Year Twelve group, it is their final year and the culmination of their boarding journey. I am looking forward to supporting them throughout the year across their many goals and pursuits.

Legacy

In Week One, I presented the boarding house with one question.

What legacy do you want to create and leave behind?

I asked the boarders to then go away and think about their own values, goals, passions, and how to create a positive culture within Eclipse boarding house this year. Many were instantly happy to share past stories of their boarding experience and growing up in the GSG community. It was wonderful to hear a consensus of wanting to mentor and support the younger boarders in the community. The boarders also expressed their desire to pass on a respectful culture and environment of excellence. Promote an active and welcoming house. Be role models in the community and support one another. This year as a house we aim to leave a legacy behind for the next generation of boarders to build upon and celebrate.

“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments,’ said the Greek statesmen Pericles, ’but what is woven into the lives of others.’ Your legacy is what you teach.”

Developing a culture of hard work

In the first three weeks of term, there has been a growing comradery of common space study sessions. Working with one another to brainstorm, find solutions and ask for help. Mr Josh Carson has also been joining us every Tuesday and Sunday to tutor those who need help in his relevant fields. Developing a culture of hard work is worth nourishing because research shows us that it is the number one trait that allows us to achieve our personal goals. Another factor that contributes to success is managing our own self-regulation and what we can and cannot control daily. Each Eclipse boarder was presented with the below diagram. It provides a visual representation of when we lose our way or need refocusing. I look forward to supporting all Eclipse boarders to achieve their personal goals this year.

Year Twelve Ball

The night of nights where Year Twelve students all put together their best outfits and enjoy a night of food, dancing and great company. It was fantastic to see them all enjoying the night and a great way to start the boarding year.

Recreation

Eclipse continues to be an active household. The new basketball court was installed over the holidays and is utilised daily. We have also been dune running, beach exploring, town adventures, Binalup beach picnics and campus hikes.
