URStrong at GRPS

This week has been a big week in the URStrong space.

The Founder of URStrong, Dana Kerford, came to visit our school - all the way from Canada! We were chosen as one of three schools in the Maroondah network because of the work we have done over time and the commitment we have made to the friendship program. The students (and teachers) were very excited, as Dana features in the video clips we watch as a part of the URStrong lessons and is somewhat of a celebrity around here! Dana enjoyed meeting our students and hearing them discuss URStrong concepts during their class meetings.

On Thursday night, it was wonderful to see some of our GRPS families attended the Language of Friendship workshop at Eastland. The workshop gave children, parents, and teachers a common “language” for talking about friendships. Through interactive parent-child activities, parents learned strategies to support their child in fostering healthy, feel-good friendships. A group of our Year 6 students, did an amazing group running the GRPS stall where people made stickers and talked all things friendship.

Details to follow in the next newsletter!

Thank you to everyone who was involved!

Junior School Council Representatives for 2023

At Great Ryrie Primary School, we believe that students should have the opportunity to express their opinions and ideas and participate in the decision-making processes of our school.

Student representatives who form the Junior School Council voice the concerns of the students and make suggestions to improve our school. They are students who have been nominated for this important role by their fellow classmates and teacher.

JSC runs a fundraiser every term - this term we will be raising money for the Royal Children's Hospital. Our representives work hard to give back to our community.

Well done to the following JSC representatives:

Random Acts of Kindness Day

Last Friday was international Random Acts of Kindness Day! The idea behind Random Acts of Kindness Day is to encourage feelings of kindness and brighten up someone's day. Every small act of kindness is important.

The students completed some beautiful kindness activities in their class and the teachers did something kind for another member of staff. There was a wonderful feel around the school!
