Dance auditions at WPS next week!
Warrandyte Primary school is very excited to have again been offered participation in one of Melbourne’s biggest professionally staged productions – the Victorian State Schools Spectacular. This year, sixteen students from Years 5 and 6 will be selected to represent our school as part of the Mass Dance team, joining thousands of students from Victorian government schools in producing a one-off TV special to be broadcast on Chanel 7 in December. The show - which will feature an 80-piece orchestra, 1500-voice choir, 1400 mass dancers, lead vocalists, principal dancers, ensemble dancers, backing vocalists and specialty artists – will be filmed both at the Performing Arts Unit TV studio and at various locations across Victoria. It will be a fabulous opportunity for students to develop skills which are specific to performing for camera.
Although the Spectacular will not be filmed until the end of Term 3, auditions will take place at school next Friday, February 5 at 1.40pm in the Bampi so we can confirm our school’s registration.
Eligibility for participation in Mass Dance:
- Students are required to attend weekly before-school rehearsals on Fridays at 8.10am from February – September. They must also be available for the full-day filming at the Performing Arts Unit on a school day in term 3 (date to be advised).
- Successful students will be given participation and media release forms which must be returned by Thursday, February 11.
- At this stage, participation is offered to Year 5 and 6 students only (if there are any remaining places, auditions will be offered to Year 4s).
A notice detailing audition format and the success criteria for selection will be sent home to Year 5 and 6 students on Friday, January 29. I strongly encourage all students and families who are interested in participating in this rewarding experience, to closely read the notice before the auditions. I’m looking forward to seeing lots of energetic dancers next Friday!
