Matilda the Musical Production

Leah Stange, Year 11

When I first auditioned for Matilda, I honestly didn’t connect much to Miss Honey, and I wasn’t sure what skills I would bring to her character. As we continued to rehearse, I grew a stronger connection to Miss Honey and really started to develop my skills, as not only a singer, but as an actor.

Miss Honey is my favourite character out of all the characters I have ever played as she has so much depth to her and a moving story, which I am grateful I was able to portray.

I was of course sad to see the previous Year 12 cast leave, however I was able to build such a great family with the new cast. Being one of the older students, I feel so lucky that I was able to become a friend and mentor to those younger than me and continue to encourage the arts to younger students.

I was lucky as most of my scenes were with the younger cast, so I was able to make some amazing friendships and bond with the little kids.

The experience of being on stage and performing is my absolute favourite thing, and I am so unbelievably grateful that I have had the opportunity to not only perform with such an amazing cast, but to work with Miss Gregory, Mr Johnson, Kate Glew and Miss Slater and her band.

As performing is something that I wish to continue after School, I will truly cherish every moment that I have had being involved in the School productions, and I am so beyond proud of everyone.

Natasha Redlich, Year 12

Last weekend, the talented cast of Matilda were able to perform to an audience after an 18-month hiatus. Matilda the Musical tells the story of Matilda, a young girl who loves to read, develops telekinesis powers and overcomes the obstacles of her parents who think she is a 'bookworm' for reading instead of watching the 'telly'.

On top of her home life, Matilda starts school and has to deal with the school bully, the Principal Miss Trunchbull.

After a year being away from the stage, I could not be more proud of the talented group of performers who put their hard work and dedication into this musical. What a joy it was to see everyone perform on stage after a year!

Another special thank you to the crew and the creative team who also put their time and effort into getting us on stage once again. Congratulations once again on a fabulous show!

Student Achievement – Elijah Slavinskis

We can finally reveal a little secret we had to hold onto, until we were allowed to share with everyone.

During the COVID19 lockdown last year, Elijah was working on an animated series called 'Big Words Small Stories', playing one of the lead Characters 'Davey'.

Elijah spent many eight-hour days, over many months, in a recording studio (just him in the booth by himself), recording the voice of Davey and embracing all it meant to be Davey. He also got to sing the introduction song for each episode. Season #1 is 65 episodes x 5 minutes.

Elijah had a most wonderful experience, and he got to learn so much from working with the sound engineer and with creatives who were located around the world.

The show will be shown in both Australia (ABC Kids) and Canada (TVO and Knowledge) and Episode #1 screens on the 7 June 2021. The following links will show you the Trailer and the IMDB Page:

Well done Elijah!
