As we get closer to the end of the year, we know that there are things for our students to look forward to in the weeks to come. We have celebrated the successes of Year 12 and said our last goodbyes to them, and our Year 3-6 students are enjoying a couple of days of activities instead of their usual end of year trip. As we look forward to other celebrations including the Year 6 Graduation, our Presentation Day assembly and the Mini Olympics organised by the Secondary SRC for the very last day of school, we have seen some decline in student behaviour in the playground which seems to happen before each set of holidays.
Many of our students enjoy the routine that school gives them each day, however for some, the holidays can be a challenging time for both them and their families. Whilst we want them all to take advantage of the rest that they need, students may also benefit from some routine and structure in their day. This could be as simple as ensuring that they have breakfast every day and have a set bedtime, even a bit later than during the school term.
Getting organised early in the holidays for the return of school will also help our students see the return to school as something to look forward too. Just like our staff, who will be working on learning programs for some portion of the break, our students can start to prepare themselves for great things in 2021. Our Year 11 students may have work to complete over the break as they are already partway through their Year 12 courses.
Our students can be ready for school by keeping up with their reading during the break, using their enquiring minds when out in the open and developing their creative skills when helping in the kitchen, doing craft activities or working out solutions to problems on the farm. They have all shown great resilience this year, so I am sure they will achieve even greater things in the year to come. The holidays are a time for them to refresh and recharge and come back to us, better than ever.
Each for all and all for each
