Boarding House News

Girls' Boarding
The girls' boarding house has gotten off to a great start this year with nearly everyone back on time and a group of lovely new boarders. Most pleasing is the fact that nearly all our boarders have returned. We just said goodbye to two girls over the holidays – Natalie who went to Queensland and Shania who is off to Victoria. We wish them both all the very best for the future.
So far this year we have welcomed Mariah, who is in Year 6 at Ross Park, Ari and Karlitah who are in Year 7, Peta and Shaunesha in Year 8, Shardee in Year 10 and Shanara in Year 11. We have also welcomed back Maddy who was with us for part of last year. We wish all our boarders, both old and new, an enjoyable and successful year.
Everyone was kept busy this weekend with several hours spent in the stadium on Friday and Sunday. Dodgeball was a crowd favourite, as always. There was a town trip on Saturday morning, a movie night in the Fred McKay Education Centre on Saturday and a picnic at the Aquatic Centre on Sunday afternoon.
It was also great to see some new recruits for the Sapphires basketball team. I was told after their first training session that we had some great new talent arrive, which will be put to the test tonight when they play their first game against the Cruisers. Well done to them all for stepping up.

Boys' Boarding
This year the Boys’ Boarding House welcomed boys from all over the Territory with all beds allocated. Given most of the boys are new to our College, and most are in Years 7 and 8, the way they have adapted, their willingness to get involved and their openness to making new friends has been most impressive.
A special thanks to the ‘returnees’ for their assistance in helping the new boys settle in, and to Director of Boarding Tony Knott, Boarding Assistant Deb Page and House parents, Marea Moulton, Paul Bailey and Trent McIntyre for the level of care to ensure the boys have the confidence to take on the new challenges and opportunities.
On Sunday, both boarding houses enjoyed an afternoon at the town pool. As I was leaving, I was approached by a local citizen who was glowing in their praise for the behaviour and approach of the boarders.
Already the boys from boarding have made a positive contribution to the life of the College through their willingness to get involved in all aspects of the learning program.
