Uniform Reminders and Update
With the beginning of 2020 only a few weeks old it is pleasing to say that we have had a small number of students who have taken up the option of wearing the new school trousers and emblemed shirt as the alternative to the summer dress.
The trousers/shirt combination looks very smart, and the girls who have taken up the option have commented on how comfortable and cool the trousers are.
Our uniform supplier, Noone, have requested that anyone wanting to take up the option of the trousers need to place an order at the uniform shop either at school or at the stores at Niddrie or Werribee and that this order will be filled as soon as possible.
We believe that, as we approach the cooler months of the year, we will have many more students who will take up the option of new combination.
Our student leadership team will carry out a review of the other parts of the school uniform over the course of this year. We look forward to keeping you informed of our progress.
Mobile Phone Update
At the end of 2019 we informed our community about the changes that we had made for 2020 in regards to our mobile devices policy.
The most significant change that we have made is that from the time students enter the school grounds until the end of the school day our mobile devices need to be locked away in lockers and not visible. If they are seen they will be confiscated.
If a student has their device confiscated for the first time they will be able to collect it at the end of the day from student reception.
If a student has their device confiscated for the second time they will be able to collect it at the end of the day from student reception and they will be given a 30 minute restorative conversation regarding why they were using their mobile device.
On the third occasion that they have their device confiscated the device will be returned only to a parent or emergency contact and a conversation will take place with the family. Students will also be issued with a 60 minute restorative conversation regarding why they are using their mobile device.
More detailed information will be sent to all families regarding this process after the information evenings have taken place.
We will keep you informed of how this change is working and we look forward to the week when we have no need to confiscate any devices.
Leadership Process Update
At the end of February we have our annual Investiture Assembly where we present all of our elected student leaders for 2020 with their leadership badges.
At the end of last year, we elected our Lamp Bearers, Student Representative Council and our House Captains for Years 8-12.
Over the coming weeks the new Year 7 cohort will elect their leaders, all of the Homeroom groups and Senior part of the school will elect their Student Participation Group members and the leaders of our many co-curricular groups, such as Science Club and Library Monitors, will be appointed.
We look forward to informing our community of all student leaders in the Marian News after the Investiture Assembly.
School Photo Day Rescheduled
Due to the extreme weather on the first day of school we decided to postpone the school photos day.
We have now rescheduled our photo day to Friday 21st February.
On this day all students will be expected to be in their summer uniform or school trousers and emblemed shirt.
No students in PE uniform will be included. If students have PE on the day they will need to change for the photos.
We will try and minimise interruption to classes over the course of the day and hope that the weather is kinder to us than the first day of school.
