Careers Expo

On the 29th of April the Year 11 and Year 10 cohorts travelled by bus to the Caulfield Racecourse for the VCE & Careers Expo.  After receiving a personalised wristband, all students had access to the expo across three floors for the next four hours.

Students browsed, chatted and investigated various career pathways & study options.  With over 100 different providers with displays on offer, there was a lot to see and do.  Additionally on the top floor there were five different seminar rooms with a range of different presenters and topics.  The ADF, Master Builders, Victorian Police, VCE English & Biology seminars were highly regarded by our students.

Various Universities and TAFE organisations were able to provide information on courses, their entry requirements & future careers.  There were also more niche organisations in attendance, such as the Carlton College of Sport or SEDA, which offer placements in organisations such as Cricket Australia.  Furthermore, there were a range of organisations offering study programs, revision books or study aids to help students in the completion of their VCE Studies.

Of particular interest on the day were the giveaways - between prize draws and information packs, beanies and hats, it turns out that bum-bags were some of the most popular items on offer.  These giveaways were marketing tools used to engage students with the stall-holders.

Overall, it was a fantastic day which gave students a chance to investigate their future pathways or investigate new opportunities.

 Student Feedback

‘I really liked the Careers Expo, it gave me a chance to get some questions answered about the ADF and also gave me a chance to check out some other things I was interested in. It was fun as well since we have not been at an event that big with that many people because of Covid.’

‘It was really helpful to find opportunities for future studies.’

‘It really helped us know what path to take after school.’

Fit 2 Drive

At the Fit 2 Drive Workshop, Year 11s learned about the importance of Road Safety through a range of activities.

Students broke into groups and learned about how to focus when driving and how to deal with problems on the road.  As part of the workshop students discussed the impacts of alcohol, drugs, fatigue and peer pressure on safe driving.  Next, Victorian Police Officers delivered a presentation on driving statistics.

Next, students learned about a tragic accident involving teenagers from Byron Bay before role playing how they could avoid similar circumstances in future.

Finally, students had to identify issues in different driving scenarios & how to improve the safety of all involved.
