Year 9 and 10 Tennis

Our two Years 9/10 teams trekked up to Echuca in the last week of Term 1. After sharing a bus with our arch enemy, Ky P-12, on the way to the competition, our teams hit the ground running from the start. It was clear from early on in the day that our girls would be battling with St. Joes for top spot whilst the boys were locked in a battle with Echuca College.

The draw was setup so that the teams played each school twice throughout the day. This created some fascinating tactical and strategic conversations as they battled to gain the ascendency over each other.  At the halfway point of the day, the girls couldn’t be split with both St Joe’s and St Aug's tied on 36 games a piece. Matilda, Ava, Sharni and Kat continued to push hard through to end. They took a crucial 12 games to 5 lead over St Joe’s early during the second half of the draw and maintained this lead to be crowned overall winners.

The boys team of Jim, Bill, Braith, Ben and Aydan produced a great come from behind victory to secure the honours. At the halfway point, Echuca held a commanding 10 game lead over St. Aug’s. The boys clawed their way back to be only three games behind going into the last two matches against Echuca. Both pairs were able to win more games than Echuca and ended up five games ahead at the conclusion of play.

These teams showed great composure and stamina through the day as there were minimal breaks in play. Great effort everyone!

Years 7 and 8 Tennis

Our three Years 7/8 teams were set for a big day on the tennis courts in the final week of the term. After a long hike to the Kyabram tennis courts, the students were keen to get out on the courts to show us what we had in store for the day. It was clear from the start that our Year 7 girls team were not here to mess around. Our girls had to battle through St Joe’s and our rivals Kyabram P-12 College in order to advance to the next round. In their first round match up against St Joe’s, the girls made a statement on the court that they are a force no one should mess with. Shylee, Mia, Miley and Penny triumphed, winning their sets 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0. With a great amount of confidence, the girls continued this streak beating Kyabram P-12 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0. After only losing one game all day, the girls were locked into going to the next round. A big congratulations to these girls for their achievements and we wish them all the best for the next stage in Mildura next term.

Our two Year 7 boys teams were also keen to prove what they could do on the court. Our first team consisted of Luke, Cameron, Blaine, Alex and Isaac and our second team consisted of Will, Antony, Archer and Hugh. Both teams were set to have a big day on the tennis courts as they prepared to battle against each other.

Both teams were able to overcome Kyabram P-12 College. Both teams just fell short of being able to overcome St Joe's. As the day was coming to an end, it was time for the final match against each other. It was a close battle but the boys second team got it done. A big congratulations to the boys second team who finished in second place and the boys first team who followed in third.

It was great to see the sportsmanship that all students displayed throughout the day and they represented the school really well in the community.
