Library News

Here we are at the Easter holidays already. We have recommended to students that they borrow an extra book during Library lessons this week so they can continue reading over the holidays. Don’t forget our ebook websites from Wheelers and SORA (Overdrive) so students can read online as well.

On Tuesday 29th March, at midday the shortlists for the Children’s Book of the Year Awards were announced.

Check out the CBCA website for the covers and summaries of the books. Many of the books are already in our Library and the rest are now on their way. We will be studying these and doing our own voting before the winners are announced in August. https://cbca.org.au/shortlist-2022 The Theme for 2022 is Dreaming with Eyes Open.

After Harmony Day on 21st March, for the last few weeks, we have been looking at books which have a message about harmony. Michael Streich writes about ‘Scary Bird’ who is trying to fit in.  “There’s a new bird in the aviary... and everyones in a flap! He's strange and different... and SCARY! Will the scary bird ever feel at home with the others?” (Scary Bird by Michael Streich, Scholastic, 2020) We watched a video of the author drawing both the Scary Bird and the other birds in the book.

Crow helps Mo break down his wall to see the world outside and find a new friend as well. (Mo and Crow by Jo Kasch, Allen and Unwin, 2021)
