Assistant Principal's Report

Mrs Cheryl Evans

WELCOME BACK!

Welcome back to Term 2. I hope that everyone has had a relaxing break and that all students are ready for what is a very short term (9 weeks). Due to this, students need to get straight into their learning making sure that they utilise their class time wisely and keep on top of their learning tasks and due dates.

ANZAC DAY 2022

On Monday 25th April, I had the pleasure of attending the ANZAC Day ceremony here in Maffra where two of our students

Jaliilah & Jaime

– Jaliilah Duncan-Berkelmans and Jaime Gallatly volunteered to lay a wreath on behalf of the College to honour those who have served in times of war.

Jaime Gallatly, as the recipient of the 2021 John Sargent Memorial Scholarship, also spoke at the Maffra RSL where she responded to the topic, ‘What ANZAC Day means to me’. Jaime spoke confidently on the topic drawing on stories based around her family members who had fought in various wars and also paying respect to those who fought and continue to serve to give us the freedoms that we as a country have today. Congratulations Jaime on a great speech!

TERM 2 FOCUS – LEARNING

As part of our continued focus on our VALUES and Expected Behaviours, this term we as a College, will be focusing on the VALUE – Learning and the three associated positive behaviours:

  • Listen actively to others
  • Challenge ourselves when completing tasks and setting goals
  • Take responsibility for our learning and actions

These key behaviours will be the focus within our classrooms throughout the term and will compliment the introduction and use of the Explicit Instructional Model.  Using both our Expected Behaviours and the Instructional Model we will continue to develop, “A positive learning community where all individuals are accepted, inspired and empowered to succeed”.

As a parent it is also important that you can discuss what our Values & Expected Behaviours, and Respectful Relationships look like in your home and in the community so that these continue to be reinforced in a variety of settings. Ideas, in regards to how to do this, will continue to be featured in future newsletters…stay tuned.

2023 – YEAR 7 INFORMATION NIGHT

On Monday night we welcomed prospective 2023 Year 7 students and their families to Maffra Secondary College. This was well attended and showcased the fantastic opportunities that students of Maffra Secondary College have.  I would like to congratulate everyone who was involved but particularly our Year 7 Student Leaders – Jaxon Marshall and our School Captains Lily Dierickx & Angus Neaves who spoke extremely well giving a student’s perspective on our School.  If you know anyone who would like to a school tour, these will occur at 9.30am every Monday throughout term 2.  To book, please contact the main office on 51471790.

UNIFORM REMINDER

As we enjoy the last of these autumn sunny days and as the cool weather starts to arrive, I would like to remind all students and parents of one of our Expected Behaviours – ‘We wear the correct uniform’. This is something that our student body, when reviewing our set of core values and behaviours, wanted to see included as it creates a sense of belonging and community as well as a positive culture across the school.  Students and Parents are reminded that we have a school jacket which can be purchased from the school and that these soft-shelled jackets have been designed by students to wear on colder days.  Puffer jackets, hoodies and leggings are not a part of our uniform and are not to be worn to school.
