Reminder: a big reminder to please provide an art smock for your child. It can be in the form of an old t-shirt or shirt. Many thanks to everyone who has sent their child to school with an art smock. It has helped ensure our students' uniforms stay pristine!

YEAR 1/2 ART NEWS

Students developed an appreciation for the continent of Africa. They looked at the use of African animal patterns in art and created their own African animal masks. This unit was also linked to their year 1 Geography Unit. They went on to further explore the geography of the African savannah landscape. The students spent time creating their own savannah landscape painting with a focus on how we can use silhouettes against a warm colour sunset background.

YEAR 3/4 ART NEWS

Students had lots of fun experimenting with paint to create marks. They used their fingers and cardboard to create all sorts of marks that would create texture, lines and patterns on paper. This formed the basis of creating a one-of-a-kind colourful tropical fish. In this unit students developed an appreciation for the Great Barrier Reef and discussed how we can protect this natural landmark and all ocean environments around the world. Students also looked at the pop artist Roy Lichtenstein and the use of onomatopoeia words and created their own Pop Art style artwork.

YEAR 5/6 ART NEWS

Students learnt about the changes that have occurred to the Great Barrier Reef and what we can all do to protect our reefs around the world. They used real shells to practise observational drawing and watercolour painting techniques and then created a watercolour painting of their shell/s.
