Tuesday was a good day for our girls and provided great results!!!

Thank you also to the fabulous Clayfield College teaching staff who brought their classes over to cheer and support our girls.  It made a huge difference and really helped our girls pull out their best performances.  Our spectators provided a wonderful atmosphere for Clayfield College girls and all gymnasts competing.

QGSSSA Cross Country

Our Cross Country coaches are doing an amazing job keeping our students moving and lifting their fitness and capacity across the term, regardless of the interruptions and the number of forced school-based sessions. In fact, the variety in training keeps them engaged and motivated with a great core group of girls who regularly attend each session. Unfortunately, this week’s meet was again postponed due to the rain earlier this week, however, there will be a meet the first week back. Further details will be posted onto the College app shortly.

With only four weeks remaining next term to prepare our team, all girls are encouraged to stay active over the holidays. Training will continue each Wednesday and Friday in Weeks 1 to 3 next term and Monday and Wednesday in Week 4. In addition, Friday 13 May will be a team breakfast in preparation for the Carnival on Saturday 14 May. Full details will be made available early next Term.

Bowls Qld Secondary School’s Cup

The Bowls Qld Secondary School Cup competition is a pairs lawn bowls competition involving a team of two (two girls, two boys, or a mixed team).  Students must not have turned 19 on or before 31 December 2022, and at least one student per team must be a non-registered player (not a member of a bowls club); hence, it aims to identify new bowling talent.

The initial stages of the competition (an intra-school selection process to identify the best team from your Schools) will be completed before 24 June 2022.  An interschool District Playoff would then be completed before 22 July 2022, with the winning team from each District advancing to the State Finals on 24 and 25 August 2022, held at Club Pine Rivers. Please see the below flyer from Bowls Qld that provides further details.  If you are interested, please contact the Sports Office and if we have sufficient interest, we will enter teams.

Update from Sunny Bundaberg!

Abby Harris and Allegra Pollack
Abby Harris and Allegra Pollack

Allegra Pollack (Year 11) and Abby Harris (Year 12) are currently in Bundaberg representing Met North for Girls 16-19 cricket.  The girls and their team are doing amazingly well and have won all their pool games and Wednesday’s semi-final!

In the opening session of the Finals today, Allegra and Abby took critical top-order wickets which set up an exciting final.  However, the star-studded Wide Bay team made a considerable total reaching 5/182 off 40 overs.  A courageous run chase by Met North followed.  With the finishing line in sight, Abby hit 39 runs off 38 balls not out in the middle order to get Met North close.  Just falling short, Met North posted 10/169 off 38 overs.  A wonderful effort by Allegra and Abby to reach the final.

Congratulations to Abby Harris (Year 12) on being invited to participate in one of the two teams to attend the U18 Female Challenge.

This event will be held from Thursday 7 – Friday 8 April 2022 at the Caloundra Cricket Club, Sunshine Coast.

The U18 Female Challenge is hosted by Queensland Cricket and is an opportunity for 24 players to showcase their skills against the best players in the State.  We have no doubt Abby will be amazing; you've done Clayfield College proud!

Abby Harris has also received the Queensland Premier Cricket Katherine Raymont Shield 1st Grade Senior Women's One Day Final Medal.

Abby's team, Valley District Cricket club played against the University Of Queensland and scored the winning runs with only two balls to spare - an exciting finish to the season.

Danni Jones (Year 10)

Danni Jones

After her success in the State Titles a few weeks ago, Danni competed at the Australian Athletics Championships this week.  Unfortunately, Danni is battling a back injury and as such only competed in the U16 Women’s Discus event.  Regardless of her injury, Danni finished 5th in Australia at U16 which is a wonderful achievement for a 14-year-old. Congratulations Danni, an amazing achievement!
