From the Acting Principal

As a community we have so much to be proud of.  Together, we have navigated the challenges of life in a post-pandemic world and invested in relationships. This has allowed us to re-establish the warm and dynamic sense of community that defines Kilbreda College.  With true grit and persistence, we have overcome many obstacles and demonstrated wonderful resilience in the process.

We are incredibly proud of our students for their commitment to their studies and willingness to contribute to all facets of school life. We are grateful to all parents/carers for the trust you continue to place in us in regards to your daughter’s holistic development and for the constant support you continue to provide us with.  We feel blessed that you entrusted us with the care of your daughters. Our talented and committed staff are an integral component of life at Kilbreda College and invest so much time and energy in supporting and guiding your daughters. We thank them for all that they have gifted the Kilbreda College with this term.

Autumn Soirée

The annual Autumn Soirée was held on Tuesday evening.  It was wonderful to showcase the talents of our outstanding musicians, bands, ensembles and choirs. Congratulations to Rosy Smyth, Grace Robins and Haley Cox who delivered show-stopping performances as soloists, to our courageous first-time performers and to all our music performers who mesmerised us with their musical mastery.  It was fantastic to witness the re-emergence of our intermediate and senior ensembles after two years of music rehearsals conducted online. They are now outstanding leaders of the College music program.

I extend my congratulations to Ms Jo-Anne Hilliard, Co-curricular Performing Arts Coordinator, for preparing the Autumn Soirée, in addition to also conducting the Senior Choir. She has been ably supported by Ms Kara-Lee Rabbetts, our Junior Choir and Year 10 and 11 Band conductor, along with our talented music instrumental teachers.

Our Music Program has a proven ability to develop healthy, productive, and creative relationships with staff, students, and families.  We look forward to strengthening this sense of community, as we encourage our music performers pursuit of music throughout their journey at Kilbreda.

House Athletics Carnival

On Monday 4 April, we gathered as a whole-school community at Duncan McKinnon Athletics Track for our House Athletics Carnival.  It was evident from the beginning that our students had brought enough colour, enthusiasm and spirit to fill stadiums as we recorded our highest ever participation numbers in recent memory.  There was barely a dull moment throughout the day, as students got involved in every race and event, earning valuable House points and supporting and encouraging their fellow competitors to achieve personal bests.  The true Kilbreda spirit certainly shown through.

Sporting carnivals such as these are only possible when students and staff work collaboratively, and I must acknowledge Mrs Maree Clark and Mrs Jo Wood, our Sports Coordinators, staff, House Captains and our VET Sport and Recreation students who worked tirelessly to deliver a joyous and memorable Athletics Carnival. Congratulations to all competitors, to Brigid House – our 2022 House Champions and to Delany House – our 2022 House Spirit Award winners.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Our community relies on relationships centred on integrity, patience and respect and we continue to work alongside our students to ensure that they are people of character and great global citizens.  Coming together as a community helps strengthen our connections and improves our overall performance.

It was wonderful that we were able to connect with parents and carers through our Parent/Student/Teacher interviews.  These interviews and feedback provided online through our continuous reporting cycle are a vital part of our student’s learning journey and an integral component of setting up a successful learning pathway that meets each student’s identified goals.  I strongly encourage all parents/carers to revisit key conversation points from the parents/student/teacher interviews and online assessment task feedback over the holiday period and develop student learning goals for Term 2.

Holy Week

Holy Week will begin this Sunday with Palm Sunday. As the season has truly turned to autumn, as Christians, we turn our hearts and minds to the crucifixion, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Christ’s life on earth was lived so that our sins are forgiven and that we will one day enter into eternal life.

As we embark on the Easter journey - a time of renewal and hope - let us think about how we can make changes in our own lives that will enable us to bring the joy and mercy of Christ's message to the world that surrounds us today.

On behalf of the College, I pray that everyone has a safe and holy Easter. I hope this upcoming holiday break provides all members of the Kilbreda College community with the opportunity to rest and recharge.
