Glenelg Division Athletics

This event was held last Friday and we had some incredible team and individual success on the day; winning all three shields for the second year in a row – Girls, Boys and Overall Aggregate! A big thankyou to the staff who attended on the day, our coach Rohan Garfoot, our Athletics Captains Poppy Austin and Ollie Wortley, our parents and family members who came over to Casterton to support the athletes and most importantly the students for giving their best effort on the day and showing great sportsmanship, school spirit and determination. It definitely stood out and helped us get over the line to win the shields. A full report from the Captains is below.

Football Academy

Next Thursday, 7 April, our Year 8 and 9 Football Academy group will be playing Horsham College and Emmanuel College from Warrnambool in a round robin day of short games at Pedrina Park. This is a great opportunity to play against other school based academies of a similar age and put into practise the skills and knowledge the students have been learning in the classroom.

Cricket Report

An exciting week for cricket at College as the 2021/2022 season was wrapped up with awards ceremonies and a fantastic win in the A Grade Grand Final, breaking a 19-year flag drought in the process. Three College students were part of the A grade Grand Final match against Macarthur, with Henry Bensch and Harry Austin representing College in their victory and Oliver Wortley opening the batting for Macarthur.

The U16 Blue team had a disappointing loss in the Grand Finals after a strong season.

The College First XI team has another opportunity to flex its muscles on Sunday 3 April as they host Ballarat Grammar for a 40 over friendly match on the College turf. Play starts at 11:00 am and all are welcome to come and support the boys as two quality teams face each other.

GD Athletics Report

On Friday, a large group of keen athletes made the journey up to Casterton to compete in the annual Glenelg Division Athletics.  All students were eager and determined to excel in their events and defend our trophies.

We secured a win in the Girl's Aggregate by half of a point, as well as the Boy's Aggerate by 50 points. We had a considerable overall win and were awarded the overall shield for the 8th year in a row. An excellent achievement from everyone involved!

Congratulations to our four outstanding age-group champions, Grace Potter (12- 13 girls), Jack Sobey (U14 boys), and Ollie Wortley and Maddie Green both taking out the 18–20-year-olds winning age champions.

There were some exceptional record-breaking performances throughout the day, including:

  • Tobe Adamson in 17-year old’s 1500m race - running a lightning fast 4 minutes 41 seconds, beating the record by 12 seconds.
  • Poppy Austin set a record for the girls 18-20 years 1500m - with a new time of 5.38 minutes smashing the previous record by 22 seconds.
  • Harrison Lu also set a new record in the 12- 13 year old boy's hurdles - breaking the time by 3.2 seconds in his race of 13.37 seconds.

A big thanks to everyone who participated on the day, all your achievements contributed to the overall win. Keep up the training and look forward to seeing more outstanding performances at ICCES next term.

Thanks,

Poppy Austin and Ollie Wortley (Athletics Captains)
