Thrilling collaborations and access to the best

Although it’s not over yet, it has been a thrilling last few weeks in the Music Department working with some of the best in the country.  Following our inaugural collaboration with the Australian String Quartet late last year, we were reunited this week with violinists Dale Baltrap and Francesca Hiew, violist Christopher Cartlidge and cellist Michael Dahlenburg.  Accompanying the Quartet for their Dunkeld Festival this weekend, The Hamilton and Alexandra College workshops and the community Hamilton Concert at the Kantor Family Music and Performing Arts Centre, is pianist Laurence Matheson.  We have been privileged to build an ongoing relationship with Monica Curro (MSO Violin) who visits next week for the third time this term, this week it has been a delight to run performance workshops for our ensembles, string soloists and piano students with not one music guru, but five!

Hamilton Eisteddfod entries are now open via the Stardom website.  Entries close 7 April 2022.  College ensembles will be entered by the music office however individual entries should be made by parents in consultation with instrumental teachers. 

Regardless of level, performing live at an Eisteddfod is a fantastic way to demonstrate learning, gain valuable performance experience, perform for a large supportive audience, and receive constructive criticism from a highly trained and experienced performance expert.  Students may like to consider entering duet and trio sections alongside their individual sections.  This can be a great way to make music with friends.
