After School Academic Assistance

Some of the Middle Years Students have been utilising the after-school Academic Assistance in the library, but it would be great to see more using this resource. If you’re not sure what Academic Assistance is or how it works, here is some information:

How it works

Academic assistance is available each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoon from 3.45-5.30pm in the Library. It is a supervised study session by a Senior School teacher. This is available to all Senior School students (Year 7-12). Each Monday afternoon, English teachers are available to offer assistance and each Wednesday afternoon Maths teachers offer a help session. Students are free to work on any homework they need but may choose to focus on English or Maths on these afternoons and work with the specialist teachers.

When Academic Assistance may be useful

For Middle Years students this can be a useful time to complete homework and/or seek help for a specific subject.

It’s a great time to complete homework or a study session:

  • while waiting for parents to pick them up.
  • before or between sports training.
  • before basketball games.
  • before or after music lessons.
  • If students are struggling with a subject and need some extra help.

How to use Academic Assistance

If students plan to use Academic Assistance, please make sure they sign in at the start of the session and sign out when leaving (departure can be anytime up until 5.30pm).

All students are welcome to attend Academic Assistance, but if they would like specific help in a subject it is worth them pre-organising this with their teacher. It would be great to see MYPEC students making good use of this great resource…… and it’s a great habit to develop before they begin their VCE!
