The Future of Agriculture

This week the ABC published media that celebrated the fact that the face of Australian Agriculture is becoming younger, it is more female orientated, and more and more city students are looking for careers in this space.

At The Hamilton and Alexandra College, we offer our students the opportunity to get a taster of Agricultural studies in our elective pathway program Explore at Years 8 and 9 and following that some of our students choose to partner with RIST (Rural Industries Skills Skill Training) to undertake more formal study. It was a privilege to attend the RIST Graduation ceremony on Monday 28 March. The CEO of RIST, Mr Bill Hamill, outlined the success of the organisation over 29 plus years. The vision to run an agriculture program with the support of industry partners and trainers has meant that over the last three decades thousands of students have graduated with certificates, diplomas, and bachelor’s degrees. Many of these students live locally and continue to learn and grow their knowledge and skills.

Like our College, RIST was able to pivot to an online delivery of curriculum during 2021. Mr Hamill shared with the attendees the scope that they now have to introduce virtual reality technology to enhance learning. The future of agriculture is changing, and we are delighted to be working with a progressive organisation that cares for each student and their families.

We have a strong partnership with RIST and each year some of our students work with RIST to complete a Certificate II or III in Agriculture. We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of the following students from The Hamilton and Alexandra College:
