What's Happening In RE

Year 9 & Year 12

Year 9 Studies of Religion

Year 9 students have been studying the topic 'The New Testament'. This has included studying key Christian biblical writings. Our recent focus has been looking at the parables of Jesus. Students demonstrated their understanding through acting out two parables - The Parable of the Good Samaritan and the Parable of the Prodigal Son.

Year 12 Studies of Religion

Congratulations to our senior Studies of Religion students who completed the HSC examination on Thursday 27th October. Studies of Religion 1 students complete a 90 minute exam covering the topics of ‘Religion and Belief Systems in Australia Post 1945’ and the Depth Studies of Christianity and Islam. Studies of Religion 2 students study the same content, with the addition of the ‘Religion and Non-Religion’ unit, the additional Depth Study of Buddhism and finally ‘Religion and Peace’.

This exam is the culmination of six years of Religion studies at KCC, guided by an expert team of Religion teachers. The 7 - 10 syllabus ‘Sharing Our Story’ guides students through the foundations of Catholic belief and practice with a focus on building the Kingdom of God on earth through actions of peace, love and justice. Study of the major world religions and variants of Christianity is increasingly incorporated as students progress towards their senior Studies in Catholic Thought course or the ATAR courses of Studies of Religion.

The lead-up to the HSC examinations requires personal and collaborative commitment between our teaching team as they respond to the diverse and complex needs of the cohort, and students as they implement teacher and self-feedback to master the content and exam skills. It is a wonderful experience to witness students take charge of their own learning in their final months of study, motivating and supporting one another to achieve their goals.

We wish all our students success in their exams and future endeavours.
