Science

This week in Science:

It was National Water week last week which led to some wonderful discussions about our connection to water in our world during science lessons.

Foundation & Year 1

We shared a wonderful story called ‘When Water Lost Her Way. It is about water moving through earth’s water cycle. The story is told as being water to encourage students to think more deeply about the importance of water and how they can ‘care’ for it.

Students completed a colouring sheet about the water cycle.

Year 2

During Year 2’s recent walking excursion to the Plenty River they noticed many signs of flooding and pollution. In science we explored what this might mean for the environment. Students discovered that the Plenty River joins the Yarra River, and flows into Port Phillip Bay and eventually the Ocean.

Students considered ways to ‘care’ for our local waterways and how to save water.

Year 3/4  & 5/6

3/4’s and 5/6’s are exploring the water cycle. They have made a model water cycle in a zip lock bag and stuck them up on the classroom windows. They will observe them over the week and note changes at different times of the day.
