Japanese

This week in Japanese:

This week, Monty students have been in full swing for Onigiri Action – Change the world with Onigiri! YR3 to YR6 students discussed World food day (Oct 16th), food issues and the Sustainable Development Goals while reviewing colours, numbers and months of the year in Japanese. Hunger in some regions got worse during COVID, one in ten people are suffering from hunger today.

In Week 4, Monty students made ONIGIRI (rice balls) and took part in a campaign called Onigiri Action. Onigiri is a soul food for Japanese people and it is often made for lunches and picnics. For Onigiri Action, we made rice balls, took photos of them and uploaded the photos to the Onigiri Action website. For each photo uploaded they will donate funds to provide five hot school lunches to children in need in Africa and South East Asia. We are hoping to provide more than 2,000 meals as a whole school. And you can join us at home until Nov 6. Why not try making onigiri at home and help address hunger?

Lastly, a big thank you to our amazing Onigiri volunteers Naho san, Tomoe san, Ryoko san and Natalie san! Some YR5&6 have done a great job helping Foundation and YR1 students. Well done! We couldn’t have run this event so seamlessly without everyone’s help. Arigatou!
