Grade 3/4 Students

Celebrating our tremendous Threes and fabulous Fours !

3/4A - Ms Yvette and Mrs Hunter

3/4A has been abuzz with discussions and re-enactments of Grade 3 Day Camp, as well as the anticipation of our upcoming Grade 4 Camp next week. Students have been thoroughly enjoying the Integrated Studies unit ‘The World Around Us’. Individuals or partners chose a focus country, such as Poland, Spain and Rwanda, and have begun creating a Google Earth presentation. Students have enjoyed learning about many topics so far, such as hemispheres, tropics, the Earth’s revolution and rotation, and climate, and consistently look forward to learning more about, and adding to their Google Earth presentation in the coming weeks. Students will present their work to their peers (and families) at the end of the term.

In Writing, the Poetry unit continued to provide students a wonderful mix of joy, creativity, enthusiasm, and learning. Haikus, Limericks, Cinquains and Shape Poetry were amongst our favourite types of poetry. Here are a couple of examples of the plethora of incredible poetry:

3/4B - Mr Bolger

Over the past few weeks in 3/4B, we’ve been summarising both fiction and non-fiction texts. We’ve been working hard to ensure that we’re keeping our summaries succinct and clear, so we used some organisers to help us. For fiction texts, we used the idea of ‘Somebody, Wanted, But, Then, So, Finally’ and for non-fiction we chose key words and ideas that could help use summarise all that we had read into one sentence. The students did a great job practising with a variety of texts and using a Google Doc to type up their summaries.

3/4C - Mr Lewis

This term the students have been discovering different types of poetry. They have bene writing Haikus, Limericks, Cinquains, Colour poems and Shape poems. Here is Samara’s Fire shape poem and Piper’s Free Verse.

This term the students have been creating their own Google Earth projects on a given country. Here is Scarlett’s  example of Botswana with its major landmarks and cities mapped out.

3/4D - Mr Mitch

In Maths, our class has demonstrated their understanding of equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages in the form of a poster. Above is a representation of a whole, one half and one fifth.

In Writing, we have concluded our poetry unit with the creation of black out poems. The theme of this poem was ‘The Haunted House’.

3/4E - Miss Margarita

We are wrapping up our poetry unit and it has been a real class favourite! Students have loved exploring the different structures of poetry and experimenting with descriptive language and rhyme. We have learnt about a variety of poetry types including haikus, cinquains, black out poetry, colour poetry, shape poetry and many more. Some of the language features we have focused on are similes, metaphors, onomatopoeia, personification, alliteration and hyperbole. The results have been impressive!
