Level 3/4

Welcome back to Term 4! We have had a wonderful first week back at school hearing all about the adventures of the holidays and are looking forward to a busy and exciting last term in Year 3 & 4.

As always, we are busy with our learning in the classroom. In Writing, levels 3 and 4 are currently working on persuasive speeches in preparation for the public speaking competition coming up in November. Part of this unit will include some special visits from members of the Toastmasters organization, to help us improve our public speaking skills. We look forward to sharing our persuasive techniques with you in the coming weeks. In Reading, Level 3 and 4 students have been identifying cause and effect relationships between events to improve our comprehension of texts.

In Maths, Year 3 students have been exploring 2D shapes and 3D objects, in particular being able to use specific language and terminology to describe their features. Level 3 students have also been practicing how to round to the nearest 10. Year 4 students have started the term by exploring mass and capacity.

We have begun our exciting new inquiry topic which is all about explorers! Part of this unit includes reading our new class novel, ‘The Goat Who Sailed The World’ written by Jackie French. In our Respectful Relationships sessions, we are currently learning about things that make us all unique.

As always, there are many exciting sporting activities happening, with the regional HoopTime team playing last week and progressing to the state finals! The Division Athletics students are competing in their events this week and we wish them all the best and can’t wait to hear how they go. Year 3 and 4 sport is starting up again on Friday afternoons and we are very much looking forward to this. Year 3 students are also keenly anticipating their swimming program at Aquanation which will run across week 3. We also have a wonderful science incursion from Hands On Science this week, where we will be learning all about forces and motion.

We look forward to sharing some of these exciting activities across the coming weeks!
