Teaching and Learning

Welcome to Term 4

It is hard to believe that Term 4 is already upon us and the warmer weather is on the way.

We have an exciting term of learning ahead with so many fabulous topics and learning experiences.

We started the term with our Level 5 students heading to camp at Forest Edge in Neerim East. Students took part in so many wonderful activities to encourage collaboration and resilience.

Our Level 6 students took part in a range of learning activities in Week 1, including the Planks Incursion, Taking the Leap to Secondary School Workshop while fitting in a fun Pyjama Day.

Our Foundation to Level 4 students settled quickly into Term 4, with Reader's Workshop, Maths Workshop and the commencement of the Term 4 Inquiry units of work.

The Inquiry units for Term 4 are:

  • Foundation - Plants and Gardens
  • Level 1&2 - Water Works
  • Level 3&4 - Explorers and Navigators
  • Level 5&6 - Bike Education and Science

Swimming - Foundation and Level 3

The Health and Physical Education Curriculum in the primary school years includes swimming and water safety in an aquatic setting. By the end of primary school, it is anticipated that students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills identified in the Victorian Water Safety Certificate. The Certificate is awarded when a student can swim 50 metres continuously, answer water safety based questions and perform simple rescues.

Our Foundation and Level 3 students will be taking part in an intensive 5 day swimming program commencing Monday 17th October and concluding on Friday 21st October. Students will be travelling daily to Aquanation in Ringwood, where they will receive swimming tuition in the pool by qualified swimming instructors. Participation in the program will be recorded in the Semester 2 student report.

Hats are back!

Overexposure to the sun’s ultraviolet radiation (UV) during childhood and adolescence is a major factor in determining future skin cancer risk. UV radiation cannot be seen or felt, can be reflected off surfaces such as buildings and asphalt, and can pass through light clouds. In Victoria the UV intensity is at it's highest from September until the end of April.

For all of these important reasons, students are required to wear their school hats when outside this term.

Hats can be purchased from the school office in a variety of sizes for $18.00 and are also available for purchase from

PSW Uniforms 51 Lusher Road, Croydon   psw.com.au .

Please label the inside of your child's hat with their full name and current grade.

Before and After School Student Supervision

All schools have a legal duty of care to ensure the safety of their students. At no time can children be left unattended in the playground without adult supervision. School playgrounds are supervised by staff from 8.45am each morning and until 3.45pm in the afternoon. Prior to this time and after this time, supervision is not available and we ask that children are not left in the playground unattended at any time.

Over the past few weeks we have observed some students arriving at school without supervision very early. We ask that for the safety of your child, this does not occur.

OSH Club is the Outside School Hours Care service available at Rangeview Primary School. This service is available from 7.00am until 8.45am each school morning and from 3.30pm until 6.00pm each weekday evening.  Bookings can be made by calling 1300395735 or by going to the website  oshclub.com.au.
