AGTV German Poetry Competition State Final

On Saturday, 15th October, our 5 German poetry finalists (who received a first or second place at the regional final at the end of last term) will participate in the AGTV State Final German Poetry Competition.

They are:

Siddharth 5/6C

Will 5/6G

Molly 5/6M

Josephine 5/6G

Flynn 5/6W

Students and their families are invited to attend the Austrian Club in Heidelberg, together with other Year 5 – 9 finalists from across the state of Victoria.

The poetry students will be required to recite a German poem in front of a small audience. They will be judged according to their pronunciation, intonation, phrasing and interpretation.

Families may be able to try their hand at ‘Eisstockschießen’ (Bavarian Curling) at the Austrian Club. There will also be a special performance (magic show), as well as Word Challenges and a Quiz prior to the award presentations.

We wish our poetry finalists a wonderful day at the Austrian Club and all the best for the competition.

Oktoberfest Pretzels (Brezeln)

Our annual Oktoberfest celebration will be held on Thursday, 27th October.

Students are invited to come dressed in either the Bavarian costumes (Dirndlkleid & Lederhosen) or the German flag colours (black, red and gold/yellow).

As part of the festivities, students are invited to order a traditional large, savoury German-style pretzel to be distributed on Oktoberfest day.
