Co-curricular - Junior Sport

Week 5 Update

It is hard to believe that there are only two rounds left in the Junior School Summer sport season. With this comes the end of the school year shortly after. Bearing this in mind, boys were asked last week to begin getting together in their teams to start organising a gift for their coaches as a sign of their appreciation for the season. Young boys being young boys, it would not surprise me to hear that this is the first time parents/carers have heard about this. As most of our coaches have been coaching for many years, the ‘pool room’ is full and I would encourage all teams to stay away from memorabilia. Lovely as it is to remember teams and their achievements, it is hard to find a place for all the items.

A reminder for all Basketball players for the end of season return of singlets. Once the season has concluded (Saturday 19 November) all boys involved in Basketball teams must return their singlets, preferably on Monday 21 November. Singlets should be washed prior to their return and brought to school in a plastic bag. Any student who does not return their singlet will incur the cost of replacing the singlet. This is somewhere in the vicinity of $65.

Over the season, boys have been given the responsibility to take game balls to matches on weekends. This is particularly true for Softball, Tennis, and Cricket. Inevitably, from time to time, games get washed out and the ball is not used. If your son has found himself in possession of an unused piece of equipment that belongs to the College, I would kindly ask that he return it to the Junior School Coordinator of Co-curricular s office as soon as practicable. By doing this, it helps keep equipment available throughout the season for all codes.

The Junior School Annual Co-curricular Presentation Night will be held in the College Gym on Friday 25 November after school. The time is yet to be determined; however, I will publish a full set of details in next week’s Especean. On the night we recognise the Best and Fairest player in each team across all the sports and the Team Player awards. Boys will be recognised for their representative honours for both IPSHA and NSWCIS and the converted Sportsman of the Year award will be named. All teams that went through the season undefeated will also be recognised. Parents and carers are warmly invited to join in the celebration of achievements, and boys are reminded that this is a compulsory event regardless of receiving an award. I look forward to seeing many of you there as we celebrate the boys’ performances from 2022.

Good luck to all teams for Round 11 this weekend. Remember it’s not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game. So, let’s work hard on finishing on back-to-back strong, team performances.
