News and Notices

From the Principal

Between the production and our skipping day, we certainly ended Term 3 on a high. It is wonderful to get back to some form of normality at school.

Term 4 promises to be a busy and exciting term. We have already sent home some permission slips. There is more information about some events below, but I have made a list of all the dates on the Dates for your Diary page.

I would like to thank the extended RidgeView community for their support of our production. We made about $1700 through all our efforts.

We received responses from 75% of our families with regards to joining the MOE Donation Scheme and 100% of those families were in favour of joining the scheme. Thank you to everyone who completed the form.

Installing a trampoline

Towards the end of 2020 the school was gifted a brand new, very expensive trampoline. Between COVID and asbestos management we have not been able to do anything about installing the trampoline. After discussions with staff and the Board, we agree that the trampoline could be very useful for children who need to self-regulate and that we would like to put some expectations in place and have this available to the children.

After due consideration, we believe that that safest and cheapest way to do this is to install it in the ground. I am looking for community members that :

a. have some expertise in this area and would be happy to work with Wayne our caretaker to decide on the safest way to do this, and

b. have access to a little digger and expertise in using this to dig a hole of specific dimensions.

Any assistance would be gratefully received! :)

Mufti Day 31 October 2022

The students have asked to have a mufti day on 31 October. Some students wish to dress up in halloween costumes, and I am happy for them to do this. However, I know that there are families that do not want their children to wear halloween costumes and this is absolutely fine. The children may wear whatever they wish to this mufti day. We are asking for a gold coin donation to raise funds for the school.

Gymnastics Trip Friday 4 November

We have sent home information about this trip. The children will be traveling by bus to the Eventfinda Stadium. Because of the nature of the activities, there are strict rules about having hair tied up, jewellery, and following directions. Our children love going to North Harbour Gymnastics and they always come home exhausted but very happy. Please return the permission slip to the office ASAP.

Athletics at school Friday 11 November

Our annual athletics day will be held at school. The children are divided into age groups and rotate around all the different activities. I really need one or two parents to manage our 'javelin' station. We do not have real javelins - we use foam ones to practise the art of throwing. I also need parents who are happy to move around with the groups of children and support their efforts. You are all invited to come along and cheer and support.

AJHS Gala Day - School performing

We have been invited to perform on the stage at the AJHS Gala Day on Saturday 12 November at 10.15am. We will be performing We all Stand Together (the frogs)  and Cover me in Sunshine (DanceCrew). We need all the children to come along and sing. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to promote our school.

Money Making Market Day

We will hold our Money Making market Day towards the end of term this year on Wednesday 7 December. All the children will make things at school which we will then sell on Wednesday afternoon from 3.15 - 5.00pm.

Our Year 5s and 6s have their own stalls and sell either produce that they have made at home or turns at games that they have made. We are happy for Year 4s to run a stall as well if they wish to as long as they have parent support. More information will come home about this soon.

Prizegiving and Picnic

Prizegiving will be held on Tuesday 13 December 2022 at 6pm. All children are expected to attend wearing their school uniform. Once the prizegiving is over, we invite all our families to have a picnic and games on the school grounds.

End of Term

School finishes for the year on Thursday 15 December at 12 pm. We will have our clapping out ceremony for all leavers at about 11.50am. Some of our Year 6 students like to have their shirts signed at school and they are welcome to bring a spare/old shirt during the last week of term to be signed.

Period Supplies

A couple of our older girls have started their period somewhat unexpectedly. This might be a good time to make sure your child is prepared for what is going to happen. Please also make sure that your child knows that Kalene has supplies in the office. She has daughters of her own and will help your daughter in a sensitive, but matter of fact way.

If your child is sick...

Advice received from the Ministry of Education states that children may return to school:

  • 24 hours after they are symptom free if they have colds or flu
  • 48 hours after they are symptom free if the have diarrhoea or vomiting

Please note that you need to contact the school every day that your child is away as we cannot just assume that your child is still sick.

Headlice and Nits

We have a couple of children with headlice/nits in the school. Please can you check your child and treat if necessary. It is also a good idea for those children with longer hair to keep their hair tied up.

Yummy Stickers

Please send your yummy stickers in over the next two weeks.

Paint for our Murals

I am still looking for test pots or leftover paint for our murals - particularly bright or unusual colours. I will happily take your leftovers to use.

Drink Bottles

We still have a number of children who are not bringing their water bottle to school. Please can you check that they pack it and bring it with them.

Old Mobile Phones and iPads

We are still on the lookout for old phones and iPads.

New Telephone Number

Our new telephone number is 027 593 5963.
