National Reconciliation Week

Victorian Electoral Commission visits EMC

On Thursday 6 October, EMC Koorie students were lucky enough to have Jeremy and Narissa from VEC come to talk history and truth telling, changing the future, and the importance of voting to change the system from the inside out. Politics and Aboriginal people haven’t had the best track record, but as Alex reflected on today, more things are happening and they’re happening more quickly compared to 30 years ago.

These students have the power to be the change makers, and it was awesome to hear more about Jeremy’s work, what our own Jenaya’s role as a Democracy Ambassador is, and why Jeremy is always at EMC Koorie events. His role might be complex, but it’s not hard to figure out he is authentic in his passion in empowering First Peoples - back home in his Aotearoa, and here on what always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
