Sonia McNally - Columba House Leader
This is the last Columba newsletter before my two leaders graduate from their Year 12 studies. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Alliyah Manoop and Lennon Hughes for their contributions to what has been a very successful year for Columba – one that is unprecedented. Alliyah and Lennon have been mature, helpful and dedicated leaders. I wish them every success in the years ahead. I am very proud of the young adults they have become.
I'd like to use this opportunity to consider everything that Columba has accomplished this year. It's been a really eventful year. I just want to congratulate everyone on our four victories in all-house competitions. This is a tremendous accomplishment, and I want to thank everyone who contributed to it. Without everyone's assistance, we wouldn't have succeeded; it has been amazing to serve as your captain. Thanks to everyone's efforts and support in raising donations, which Lennon and I appreciate, we all have assured ourselves of winning the house cup this year. Within our own home, we have demonstrated a wide range of abilities. I hope that it continues in the following years. Good luck to everyone in term four with all the upcoming exams, especially my fellow year 12s
Signing out, Alliyah
Hi everyone,

I’d like to thank everyone in Columba for their great efforts in the carnivals, MAD Day donations and Cambodia fundraising. We greatly appreciate all of the work done. Alliyah and I are thankful for Columba, and give the best of wishes for the future (we expect nothing but wins!!).
Good luck to everyone for the upcoming exams, as well as the year 12s.

From the 12 to 25 July I was away in the USA representing Australia in an international Futsal tour. Futsal is a form of soccer that is played indoors which has five players on the court, it is faster paced compared to outdoor soccer and is more competitive. It was a life changing experience as I met players and coaches from other countries and learnt different playing styles and foreign game tactics that I have started to use to improve my skills and performance. The tour took place over five days with each day having 2-3 games to play, the under 19’s boys team that I was a part of made it to the semi finals but sadly lost 2-1 to Argentina. It was a special feeling knowing that out of the 80 representatives, staff and coaching members from Australia, that I was the only person representing Victoria. Overall the experience was amazing and I made some life long friends from around Australia and around the globe. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Boswell for starting and developing the Futsal program here at St. John’s and to Anthony Brown (Browny) my Victoria state coach for helping me in nationals in January, and also Bryon Escobar, my Australian team coach, for coaching and supporting me. I hope to see the Futsal program be more embraced and to give other students a chance to play and learn the game. I will be more than happy any day to coach, I would like to see students having a chance to take their sport and level of playing to another level and hopefully represent Victoria and Australia.
