Grade 5 - 6

What an awesome start to Term 2 we have had in Grade 5/6!!
Reading
Our Grade 5’s and 6’s have been continuing our class novel ‘Matilda’ by Roald Dahl. We have really dove into how the characters are feeling and all the tricks the author uses to keep the novel exciting and interesting.
Writing
We have begun looking at our next writing unit, Biographies! The students have learnt all about what a Biography is, all the different parts and some of the language features used throughout. Everyone is really looking forward to starting to write a Biography of their own.
Mathematics
In Maths we have been looking at Fractions and Decimals again. Fractions and Decimals are such a big part of Maths in Grade 5/6 and the students are doing some awesome work. From ordering fractions to equivalent fractions and even multiplying and dividing fractions, the 5/6’s are learning so many new skills.
NAPLAN
Our amazing Grade 5’s had been working so hard all year to get ready for NAPLAN and it was finally time to show their stuff. During Week 3, the Grade 5’s sat the Reading, Writing, Language Conventions and Numeracy test’s and put in their absolute best effort along the way. Congratulations to all the Grade 5’s and they should be incredibly proud of all their hard work!
South East Phoenix Basketball Clinic
During Week 4, we had Matt from the South East Phoenix NBL team come out and teach us some skills. The students worked on their passing and dribbling techniques. We covered the basics and also practised some harder skills like bouncing 2 balls at the same time. The Grade 5’s and 6’s really enjoyed this and maybe we might have the next Patty Mills or Sami Whitcomb in the making?
