Grade 2

We have had a super fortnight in Year 2. The weather might be cooling right down outside, but the learning within Learning Community 3 is firing right up.

Reading

We have continued to look at different narrative texts over the past two weeks - looking at breaking it down and focusing on the aspects of the narrative. Last week we focused on Thelma the unicorn while this week we have been looking at Macca the Alpaca. The students have loved reading these books and enjoy the rhyming and the lessons behind each story.

Writing

We have continued to innovate known narratives by changing the characters, setting, plot and point of view. By using familiar texts like Macca the Alpaca and Thelma the Unicorn, students have a strong foundation to take further risks and be daring in their writing. Stay tuned to our next newsletter to see some amazing stories.

Humanities

We began a new unit in Humanities-changes in daily life from people in the past and present. We will be looking at how things are different from when our grandparents were our age, to when our parents were our age to now. It would be great if families could have a conversation with their child about how their daily life was different when they were younger.

Mathematics

We have continued our mathematics groups this week. We have really enjoyed working with different students in the cohort. Last week we looked at division and completed a variety of activities including sharing equally and long division. This week we are learning about fractions.

Excursion

We are so excited to go on our very first school excursion to Willum Warrain and Bittern Coastal Wetlands Boardwalk. We encourage families to jump onto Compass for further details.
