From the Associate Principal

Associate Principal

In March, some of our students sat their OLNA. The OLNA is an online literacy and numeracy assessment designed to enable students to successfully meet the WACE requirement of demonstrating the minimum standard of literacy and numeracy.

The Class staff, who have been supported by our fantastic Education Assistants worked tirelessly with this small cohort in targeted intervention strategies to improve their literacy and numeracy skills. The Farm staff and Trades staff also embedded many of these concepts into their curriculum and this united approach has had a positive impact on our results.

Below are some statistics from Round 1 testing which occurred earlier this year.

If students do not successfully complete their WACE (due to not meeting all OLNA requirements) by the end of Year 12 there are many options available to them.  There is no specified time limit for the completion of a WACE. Individuals may accumulate their results in WACE units and VET credit transfer for WACE achievement over a life time.

If you have not achieved a WACE because you did not demonstrate the standard in one or more of the reading, writing or numeracy components you can apply to re-sit the necessary test/s as long as you:

  • were in Year 12 in 2016 or any subsequent year
  • have sat the OLNA previously

If you subsequently demonstrate the literacy (reading and writing) and numeracy standard and meet all the WACE requirements current at the time, you will be issued with a WACE.

Students who do not meet the WACE requirements are issued a WASSA (Western Australian Statement of Student Attainment) which indicates all of their course achievements.
