I would like to commend our student body for what has been a fantastic first few weeks back this term. Despite the uncertainty surrounding COVID and having both staff and students in and out of isolation, the maturity that has been demonstrated by our students is to be celebrated. I appreciate that staff absences can cause disruption to routines and would like to thank both our students and families for their understanding as we work through this phase of the pandemic. Likewise, I would like to acknowledge our incredibly committed staff who are (as always) going above and beyond to ensure our students' experience at the College is an enjoyable one.
Term 2 continues to be fast-paced with lots of great progress occurring across the College with many activities and events back on the table. Our seeding program is well underway and it is great to see our students out in machines in the paddock putting our crop in and gaining invaluable experience and competencies along the way. Our Year 12's have returned refreshed and motivated and are doing a great job of assessing where they are currently at with their course requirements knowing they only have two terms remaining here at the College. I encourage both students and families to reach out to staff should you like an update on an individual's progress or have any concerns of them falling behind.
Provision of Work for Students Isolating at Home with COVID
We have had quite a few students over the last two weeks out for COVID-related absences.I appreciate that these students are at home sick and priority for them is rest and recovery, however many will still want to engage in some school work to keep up.
Paul Beecham will email students and their families to encourage those who feel well enough to do some work to access resources that Class, Trades and Farm staff have all placed on Connect. I encourage students to reach out to individual staff via email if they require any extra assistance or direction.
College Guidelines
Over the course of the last week I have gently reminded all students of our College Guidelines in regards to presentation requirements (haircuts) and ensuring they do not bring any items onto site that are illegal or with restricted sale such as alcohol (including alcohol receptacles, clothing or merchandise), drugs, implements, cigarettes, vapes and vaping liquid etc.
Students who require haircuts were asked last Friday to get them rectified and are no longer eligible for off-campus College activities such as town run, community sport and training, excursions etc until rectified. We can book into the local hairdresser on a Tuesday which can be arranged via the Front Office.
National Schools Opinion Survey
All parents, students and staff have been recently emailed a link to our National Schools Opinion Survey. Each year we roll out this survey which provides us with comprehensive feedback across all areas of our College.
It is important that we hear from as many parents, students and staff as possible as your voice and opinions matter. This feedback assists us with our future planning and strategic direction. If you are having any difficulty in accessing the survey, please do not hesitate to contact the College and we will work through any issues you may be experiencing.
I encourage those students who are at at home isolating to access the survey via email and complete it when they can. Thank you to all students, parents and staff for providing us with this valuable feedback.
Thank you
I'd like to sign off by thanking the families of the students who have needed to make arrangements at short notice to get your child home due to COVID. We appreciate that many families have work, family and/or seeding commitments and that distance can also be a significant challenge. I hope you feel we are doing everything we can to care for your child during this time and thank you for your ongoing support.
