Disney's As Old As Time: a twisted tale by Elizabeth J. Braswell
Belle is smart, resourceful, and restless. She longs to escape her poor provincial town for good. She wants to explore the world, despite her father's reluctance to leave their little cottage in case Belle's mother returns. Belle is also the captive of a terrifying beast. But when Belle touches the Beast's enchanted rose, intriguing images flood her mind - images of the mother she believed she would never see again. Stranger still, she sees that her mother is none other than the beautiful Enchantress who cursed the Beast, his castle, and all its inhabitants. Shocked and confused, Belle and the Beast must work together to unravel a dark mystery about their families that is twenty-one years in the making.
My Spare Heart by Jared Thomas
Phoebe's non-Indigenous mother, a busy event manager, and her father, an Aboriginal man and uni lecturer, have split up and she's moved to sleepy old Willunga with him and his new health-obsessed girlfriend. It's only a few kilometres from Phoebe's old friends and the city, but it feels like another world.
Her new school is full of hippies, but with cool kids and the local basketball team is tight, and before long Phoebe's fitting in. But as her mum struggles, Phoebe's grades begin to suffer, her place on the basketball team is under threat and her worries spiral out of control.
The Museum of broken things by Lauren Draper
Not so long-ago Reece was living in a thriving city with more than one coffee shop on each block and four full bars of reception. She attended Heathmont High School, home to one thousand students, two best friends, a deeply average orchestra, and one cursed statue. Well, allegedly.
Reece struggles to adapt to the small beachside town of Hamilton - she misses her old school, her old friends, and her old life. She can't go back. But she can't move forward - nothing feels right anymore. Not that she's trying very hard - she hasn't even unpacked yet, and the only new friend she's made is a middle-aged barista.
A witty novel about letting go of the past and finding your place in the world.

Australian Children's Laureate 2022 : Gabrielle Wang
As Australian Children's Laureate my theme is Imagine a Story. I'm encouraging young people to read stories, write stories and draw stories to keep their imaginations alive. Nourish your child's imagination, encourage them to read diverse books, give them a sense of belonging and self worth, let them draw and doodle and tell them to look up and out at the world and a mighty forest will grow inside." – Gabrielle Wang
As the national ambassador for reading and Australian children’s literature, Gabrielle speaks on behalf of creators and the entire industry (reading advocates, educators, librarians, booksellers, and publishers). In promoting the transformational power of reading, creativity, and story, Children’s Laureate Gabrielle Wang will speak with children, educators, government ministers and librarians in communities across the country.
