Diocesan Cross Country

Congratulations to Matilda and Filippa Caslick for representing St Joseph's Warialda at the recent Diocesan Cross Country in Barabba. Matilda came 10th and Filippa came 25th. This is a great effort considering the size of our school. We are so proud of the girls' effort.

Late Autumn Illnesses

A number of illnesses/conditions are going around town at the moment: COVID, influenza, foot and mouth and headlice. The health and safety of our children are central to all we do at St Joseph's. The children are reminded to wash their hands before and after eating and to sanitise their hands when entering the classroom. There is a Sanitising Station in each classroom with tissues, hand sanitiser and a waste bin.

Kinder to Year 2 Home Reading

Our K-2 children take part in Initialit lessons four mornings a week.  Mrs Anderson and Mrs Brooks organise Home Reading packs on Mondays. It's critical for the children's progress that they read each night, ideally with you reading the stories with them. We understand that sometimes we all get busy so you may not get time every day and this is fine. Perhaps an older sibling could hear them read. This is also a great time to practice any sight words that are in the books.

We ask that you complete the included booklet to record the stories that your child has read. We are also introducing a positive learning behaviour chart to encourage reading success.

After you have listened to your child read, ask them some simple questions about the                                                                                        story, eg:

Who were the characters?

What happened in the story
