Respect, Responsibility & Resilience

What's happening in our school?

Our Foundation S students have been working this term on Positive Coping with Mrs Lloyd.

Positive self-talk is a key strategy for coping with negative thoughts, emotions and events. Research shows that it is associated with greater persistence in the face of challenge, whereas negative self-talk is associated with higher levels of distress, depression and anxiety. Positive self-talk can be learnt or strengthened through practice

Students have been working on:

-Reflecting on their emotional responses

-Discussing ways in which they can take responsibility for their actions

-Describing ways to express emotions to show awareness of the feelings and needs of others

-Practising techniques to deal with feelings of fear and anger.

After discussing what negative feelings look and feel like, students discussed who they could turn to, or what they could do to help themselves feel better. They also enjoyed using playdough to make facial expressions.

We are really excited to finally have our Lunch Time Club running. Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, students wishing to participate in some quiet time activities are able to come to our library where they can work in small groups to complete art, crafts, puzzles or play games. It provides an opportunity for students to practice Social and Emotional Learning skills or enjoy a quiet environment to avoid over-stimulation. The activities are organised and supervised by Mrs Lloyd with the help of our wonderful Tribal Leaders who are really enjoying working with our younger students.
