From the Principal
Principal's Report
Welcome to the second last newsletter for 2018. Year 12’s have now officially finished their commitments and all will be eagerly awaiting their results in December. Year 11 students have started their Year 12 subjects and Year 10’s are undertaking exams all week.
Principal Long Service Leave and Retirement
It is with very mixed feelings that I can now officially announce my intentions for 2019. I began my teaching career in 1978 and after 40 years I feel it is time I step down and move on to a new phase in my life. Consequently, I will be taking the remainder of my Long Service Leave from the start of next year with a plan to retire in August 2019.
School Council members were made aware of my intentions some time ago and many parents at the Year 12 Graduation knew of my plans. Behind the scenes the Department of Education has been managing a process to find a replacement in my absence, and an Acting Principal position was advertised across the state. After a rigorous process I am pleased to announce that Arthur Soumalias has very recently been appointed to this position. This appointment will provide stability and continuity for the school.
Later in 2019, the substantive position will be advertised and the successful applicant will take up a five year contract. Mr Soumalias will now be looking to find a replacement for him while he is Acting Principal. I believe that Rosehill Secondary College is in a very healthy position with up to date educational practices and a strong leadership team.
The State Election
As you can expect, I am pleased with the result of last weekend's election. Labour Government has been returned to government as it has poured a lot of resources into improving education and school infrastructure. The result ensures that at some time over the next three years, Rosehill Secondary College will receive a grant of 4.5 million dollars to build a new technology building. Ben Carroll has been a strong supporter of Rosehill and we thank him for his efforts in bringing this to fruition.
