Bouncing Back Incursion
In July, all Year 7 students were involved in an incursion called “Bouncing Back”. This took place over the course of the day and focused on resilience and wellbeing.
The special guest speaker was Mike Rolls who told his story of surviving Meningococcal. Mike’s story was not only one of resilience but determination and that making difficult decisions in life can often be for the better. Following this, students worked in their home groups on tasks which were focussed on how to be more resilient. Students learnt how to turn unhelpful thinking into helpful thinking and made posters to promote resilience, based on Dr. Seuss’ novel ‘Oh, the places you’ll see’. They also learnt about famous failures and developed goals with set steps to pursue them.
The day very successful and I thank all involved.

So much to tell you
I am so excited to tell you about some of the highlights year 7 students have experienced so far. Not only do we want every child to do their best in their academic subjects but to enjoy the opportunities and activities on offer at the college. To date, Year 7 students have been involved in a variety of activities. The students jump at any activity on offer and as a result new friendships have been formed and new skills have been acquired. Art club is full of students who love to draw or paint; this takes place every Wednesday and Thursday at lunchtime. Friday lunchtimes Bits and Bytes group meet in the Learning Centre. The four Square courts are in constant use and the oval is full of students playing football, soccer and other ball sports.
Some of the other exciting events that have taken place for the year 7 students have included the Community police incursion, the Bouncing back incursion, the Junior House challenge, Dreamcatcher lunch meetings, Homegroup lunches for best attendance, chess club every Friday lunch, 3D modelling taught by year 10 students. We are now pleased to announce that this term we have drama club and tactile textiles - providing more opportunities for student engagement. Students have also joined in competitions such as the poetry competition and the oratory competition.
Numeracy Day
A fantastic day was had by all year 7 students on the last day of term 3. Mr Bryce Taylor our Numeracy Coordinator organised activities for the day which involved students using their Maths skills to crack codes, build LEGO, participate in a treasure hunt as well as measure distance of glider flights and work on tri-hexa-flexagons. The students and staff had a wonderful day.
The Year 7 Disco
Year 7 students organised a lunchtime disco earlier in the year and our resident college DJ Thomas Reid provided the music. The students and teachers joined together creating some new dance moves. It was a fantastic event.
Gardening Mornington
We are so lucky to have our resident gardener of year 7 Archer Hornsby grow seasonal vegetables on the college grounds. Archer has been instrumental in setting up the garden and has inspired other year 7 students to assist him. Archer regularly speaks at Teacher briefing showing his produce and guaranteeing the freshness and flavour of homegrown produce. To date he has sown and harvested snow peas, cauliflower, broccoli, lettuce, cabbage and a variety of herbs. He also tends the plants in the green house. Archer's knowledge and passion for the garden is contagious.
